How to get your store on Google

Updated September 2026 · TijarahOnline Help

Short answer: the technical part is already done for you — your store is crawlable and has a sitemap from day one. What you must do is fill in your store title and description under Settings → SEO, write real product descriptions, and then wait. A new store usually takes weeks to months to appear.

Step by step

  1. Fill in your store title and description. Go to Settings → SEO and write your store title and short description. This is the blue headline and grey text Google shows for your store. Include what you sell and your city — "Hurera Store — Home Decor & Gifts in Lahore" beats "Welcome to our store".
  2. Write a real description on every product. A product with a name and nothing else almost never ranks. Write two or three honest sentences about what it is, what it fits, and what is in the box. Use the words a customer would type, not marketing language.
  3. Fill the product SEO title and meta description. Each product has its own SEO fields. Left blank, Google invents something generic. The Draft with AI button writes both for you in seconds — you just check them.
  4. Add alt text to every image. Alt text is a short description of what is in the photo. It is how your products show up in Google Image search, which a lot of Pakistani shoppers use to browse before they buy.
  5. Verify your store in Google Search Console. Open Google Search Console, choose URL prefix, enter your store address and pick the HTML tag method. Copy just the code from inside content="…", paste it into the verification field on your SEO settings page, Save, then click Verify in Google.
  6. Submit your sitemap. Still in Search Console, go to Sitemaps and submit sitemap.xml. Your store generates one automatically — this just tells Google where it is.
  7. Do the same on Bing. Go to Bing Webmaster Tools and use Import from Google Search Console — one click, no second verification. Bing also feeds Yahoo, DuckDuckGo and ChatGPT's web search.
  8. Keep adding real products. Steady, genuine content beats every trick. Each properly described product is another page that can be found.

What is already done for you

You do not need to buy an SEO plugin or pay a monthly retainer for the basics. Every store gets these automatically:

What no platform can do for you is write honest product descriptions and earn other websites' links. That part is the actual work.

How long this really takes

WhatRealistic timing
Google knows your store existsDays, once you submit in Search Console
You appear for your own store name1–4 weeks
You appear for specific product names1–3 months
You compete for "online shopping Pakistan"Realistically not soon — do not aim here first
Google will not bring your first customers. A brand-new store takes months to rank for anything competitive. WhatsApp, Instagram and your own contacts will bring orders far sooner. Treat SEO as the thing you do steadily in the background so that in six months you have a channel that costs nothing per customer.

Getting found on the map, too

If you have a physical shop, create a free Google Business Profile. It puts you on Google Maps and in local searches like "gift shop near me", which is often easier to win than ordinary search results.

Being recommended by AI assistants

People increasingly ask ChatGPT or Gemini for recommendations instead of searching. Two things help:

Mistakes that waste money

Common questions

Do I need to pay for SEO?

No. The technical setup runs automatically on your store. Paying a monthly retainer for basic SEO on a new store is rarely worth it — spend that money on stock and photographs instead.

How long until Google shows my store?

Days to weeks to be indexed at all once you submit through Search Console. Your own store name usually appears within a month. Competitive searches take many months, and some you will not win for years.

Why is another store ranking above me?

Usually because the domain is older and other websites link to it. You close that gap with genuine product content over time and by getting mentioned elsewhere — not by changing settings.

Will AI assistants like ChatGPT recommend my store?

They can find any public page. Clear, specific product text helps. Being mentioned on third-party sites helps more, because that is what assistants lean on when recommending.

Should I use Bing as well as Google?

Yes, and it takes two minutes because you can import your verification from Google Search Console. Bing also powers Yahoo, DuckDuckGo and ChatGPT's web search, and it usually indexes new sites faster than Google.

Do I need a blog?

Not at first. Get every product described properly before writing anything else — those pages are what people actually search for.
